Zabeel Racing Stables

Zabeel Racing Stables as it is today was established in 1992

One of the most exclusive stables in the world, Zabeel allows guests by invite only, Zabeel is the blue print of UAE Racing. Today it is home to approximately 120 horses in training, including up and coming two-year-olds, horses rehabilitating from injuries, and several Dubai World Cup contenders, including Godolphin Mile entrant Surfer, and Reynaldothewizard, entered in the Dubai Golden Shaheen.

“Zabeel is a bucolic, serene setting embedded in a dynamic urban environment”

Zabeel was designed to be the most horse friendly environment possible, a well landscaped environment with plenty of open spaces and visual stimulation for the horses, with state of the art training facilities.

When you look at Zabeel Stables as a whole, there is no backstretch, race track environment. The horses are settled in a tranquil environment, Zabeel is a very peaceful place, no hustle or bustle. All the horses can see not only their stable mates but have a 24hr view of the world outside. It is very important to keep the horses mentally sound as well as physically, the two go hand in hand with success.

World Class Facility

Zabeel Stables is situated within a periphery of 200 acres plus. We have 100 state of the art, air-conditioned boxes, with rubber flooring, which is a safety feature for all horses, there is also a further 40 outdoor boxes. We are extremely privileged to have our own exclusive, private training track, the surface is a sand surface and it is 1800m (9 furlongs). We also have a 2 further training tracks, one of which is a polytrack surface used primarily with the younger horses, that are starting their racing careers. It allows horses to have an experience of both conventional dirt tracks and artificial surfaces.

We also have 2 riding arenas, a 100m long equine pool, an equine spa, treadmill and horse walker. We have 10 turn-out paddocks, which are used daily throughout the summer season. We also have our own quarantine facilities. Fortunately for us, we also have a sister stable based at Meydan Racecourse, which provides us the opportunity to train on a tapeta or turf surface at the racetrack should the horse need track or surface experience.

Each horse has its own unique training programme, horses are assessed as individuals on arrival and the programme is drawn up accordingly. Likewise each horse has its own feeding programme and is catered for very much as individual.

Morning exercises commences at around 6am, each horse is out daily for at least one hour according to its personal training programme. Every work rider at Zabeel has different skills as a rider and riders are selected for particular horses depending on what the type of ride the horse is, again catering to the horses personal needs. We have a wealth of experience with all our staff, from countries ranging from Brazil, France, UK, Ireland, Germany, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Nepal.

We race purely for the love of the game and the relationship between horse and owner is very strong. There is a definite difference between the way people think of their horses in the UAE. There is no gambling involved in horse racing here and the use of drugs is also banned in Dubai, which keeps our sport clean. Our programme results in the longevity of their racing careers.

The prize money and yields are the second highest in the world. The training fees are highly subsidised by the Maktoum family, which allows for affordable racehorse ownership as the idea of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was to afford the opportunity for all to come and race in Dubai.

Private owners

Until recently, the private race horse training centre for the Maktoum family, and was not open to the public as a training facility. However, with the growth Emirates Racing, Zabeel Racing Stables has now opened the doors to accept a select number of horses owned by private individuals.
